What’s your background, what compelled you to start writing?

I have always been a creator of all things artistic, but never really saw myself as a writer. Ever since I was little, all I could imagine for my adult self was to either teach or become an illustrator. Until a few years ago, as I become more involved in the illustrator world, I was envious of the authors who shared their stories with me. So envious that I sat down with a free notebook and pen and began to explore my ideas and found the inspiration to begin my own story. To my amazement, I was actually pulling out some good stuff. I showed some of my trusted friends and family and they believed I had what it takes to write. . Thus my life as an author began.

What book from your childhood do you remember the best? Why?

I remember reading Harry Potter and it won a place in my heart and memory, even to this day I love to read the Harry Potter books. They are just wonderful, adventurous and all things magic, which I love.

Which other authors are you friends with, and how do they help you be a better writer?

My best friend is an author. We are notorious for sitting down, coffee in hand and chatting to each other on the phone for hours, exploring each other’s worlds that we have created. She not only helps me to become a better writer by listening to me and helping with plot holes, but also she happens to be an editor. So, she is definitely my biggest helper.

What’s your writing Kryptonite?

Oh, good question. My Kryptonite happens to also be my inspiration. I am easily inspired and my imagination can run wild, creating too many projects at the one time. Which can sometimes hurt my creativity as I cannot decide which project, idea or story to work on. Not always, but that defiantly has the potential to become my Kryptonite.

What does literary success look like to you?

Having a finished story that I am 100% happy with and turn it into a book that I can hold in my hands. There is nothing better than holding your achievement in your hands, opening up that new book and taking a huge sniff of that glorious success.

What kind of research do you do?

My book is based on the old Grimm’s Brothers fairy tales. My research has been intense due to how many retellings are already out there. I wanted to make sure that my ideas were not already created. So, I was buying and reading and researching so many fairy tales, old magical laws and every type of magical creature to sacred magical landmarks in the world. It took two years of research before I even began to write my stories.

If you didn’t write, what would you do? Or, if writing is not a full-time job, what do you do?

My day job is glorious and so much fun. I am a freelance children’s book illustrator. I have always dreamed of creating beautiful stories for little minds to explore and go on awesome fun adventures and now I get to do it as a career. What could be better than that?!

What is a little-known fact about you?

I am someone who loves to try all things at least once. I will try to create art in every type of way just so I can say, ‘hey, yeah I can do that’.

How many half-finished and unpublished books do you have right now?

I have just finished illustrating the first children’s book for an up and coming author who has created a wonderful series that I have the honour of continuing to illustrate.

I am also half way through illustrations for a beautiful anthology collaboration called ‘Jack’s Adventures.’ This is a series of short stories based on my Main character from my novel Kindred Spirits, as a child and the many adventures he went on before he knew of any magic and the forests enchanted hidden worlds.

And of course, my very first novel ‘Kindred Spirits’. This is the first of a three part series that include most of our well known fairy-tale characters mixed into my own world I have created with new characters and a whole new magical adventure.
